FIRE RESTRICTIONS IN SUMMIT COUNTY

ARE NOW IN PLACE FOR ALL OF SUMMIT COUNTY, WHITE RIVER NATIONAL FOREST NCLUDING COPPER MOUNTAIN  (EFFECTIVE 2:00 A.M. JUNE 22, 2012)

WHAT THIS MEANS:

ALL open fires are PROHIBITED, including:

  • Campfires, warming fires, bonfires - even in improved campgrounds
  • Agricultural fires, trash fires and tree slash fires
  • Outdoor charcoal and wood-burning stoves
  • Cigarette smoking on public lands
PLEASE REPORT ANY FIRE OR SMOKE SIGHTINGS IMMEDIATELY BY CALLING 9-1-1

The Summit County Commissioners, in conjunction with the three fire departments and the Summit County Sheriff's Office, have enacted fire restrictions effective June 8, 2012.

ALL open fires are PROHIBITED, including:

o    Campfires, except those in approved campsite fire rings

o    Warming fires

o    Bonfires

o    Agricultural fires, trash fires and tree slash fires

Fires contained within grills and in approved permanent fire pits on private property are allowed if under constant supervision and if adequate fire protection is available. Fire bowls and chimineas with screens, placed on concrete or asphalt surfaces, also are permitted.
