Greetings,
The 2009-10 winter season is knocking on our door with an opening day of November 6, and Copper's 5th opening weekend festival Lift Off presented by Sprint.
Snowmaking is well underway and race training has begun with teams from all around the world gracing the slopes of Copper. After a summer of minor snowmaking improvements, including a few fully automated snow guns, I am confident to say that the dedicated snowmaking team will be ready for opening day. See you out there!
Race Training underway at Copper
Copper opened our fall race camps on Monday, October 19, once again welcoming ski race teams from around the country and the globe for the best high alpine training available anywhere. Each season, top ski and snowboard race teams look for suitable locations to ready themselves for the coming competitive season and Copper is consistently chosen as that place. Keep an eye out for local and US-based teams such as Team Summit and the men's and women's US Ski teams, as well as National teams from Sweden, Italy, Japan, Australia, and many others, as they prepare for the 2010 Winter Games in Vancouver. Copper kicks off the season right celebrating the return of winter for the 09-10 season November 6 - 8. Enjoy the latest 2010 ski & snowboard movies, including the Copper premier of TGR's new film: Re:Session, with net proceeds benefiting Team Summit. The weekend will also include equipment demos, après specials, a movie at The Woodward at Copper Barn and-new this year-Lift Off Late Night! Make sure to check out the Lift Off concert on Saturday night with The Heyday, DJ Relm and headliners The Rapture.
New 22 ft Superpipe debuting during the Grand Prix
Copper shows a substantial commitment to the progression of skiing and riding by building the resort's first ever 22 ft superpipe, and we hope to have the first superpipe open in North America for the 5th consecutive season. The 22 ft superpipe will make its national TV debut during the USSA Grand Prix, Dec. 11-12, when top snowboarders from around the globe will vie for coveted Olympic Halfpipe spots. Enjoy the Paul Mitchell Progression Sessions on Saturday night, under the lights on Lower Bouncer. Watch the first Grand Prix stop at Copper on NBC Sunday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. EST.
Helmet Usage
Copper's parent company, Intrawest, recently announced a new helmet policy underscoring our commitment to safety on the mountain. Beginning this season, Copper will implement a mandatory helmet requirement for all children and youth participants in Ski and Ride School Programs, as well as for all students participating in Woodward at Copper programs, regardless of their age. In addition, a helmet will be included with all children/youth ski and snowboard rental packages offered at Copper's equipment rental outlets.
Resort Community
The Ten Mile Planning Commission is looking for a representative from the Copper Mountain area. Current Ten Mile Planning Commission activities include: reviewing zoning and building permit applications and developing municipality engineering and design projects. I encourage you to become involved and help shape our greater community. If you are interested, please contact Summit County Planner, Mr. Lindsay Hirsch, at 970-668-4206 or lindsayh@co.summit.co.us.
Homeowner Ski and Après Days
Copper Mountain's Resort Leadership Team (RLT) is inviting Homeowners to ski and ride with them on select Saturdays throughout the season and then enjoy what Copper restaurants and retail have to offer during après. On these Saturdays - Dec 5, Jan 16, Feb 13, March 13, and April 10 - please join RLT between the Eagle and the Flyer lifts at 9:30 a.m. and make a few turns with some of Copper's executive team.
WHAT IS THIS ‘EVERYONE DESERVES A SNOW DAY' STUFF?
You might have noticed recently that Copper is employing a classic look for this season and encourages everyone to enjoy a snow day. Everyone Deserves a Snow Day is a marketing platform that Copper will use this year in its national marketing efforts in Denver, Dallas, Kansas City and St. Louis. Copper wants everyone to experience the tangible excitement of a snow day. You might have seen the new "Copper classic" look on our website, on the trail map, in the most recent edition of Copper Magazine, as well as throughout the resort.
I look forward to seeing you on the slopes of Copper, catching air at Woodward at Copper, or enjoying one of our many early-season signature events this winter, including the 8th annual Yam Jam, the Gobbler Chase Snowshoe race and High Alpine Holidays.
Thank you for your continued dedication and passion for Copper. Please watch for more communications throughout the year. If you have questions or feedback, please feel free to contact me directly at RodgersG@coppercolorado.com.
Sincerely,
Gary Rodgers
